Rick is a proven veteran in kids & family entertainment, with almost 30 years in the industry, including 20+ years with DreamWorks Studios, where his roles included chief creative of the global franchise group; head of global interactive; and head of licensing & retail marketing. Properties Rick has worked on include Trolls, How To Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, The Prince of Egypt, Spirit, Shrek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Saving Private Ryan, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Men in Black, Dreamer, and Small Soldiers.
Rick is founder and President of StoryCrate (www.thestorycrate.com), a consulting and property development group working with the biggest brands and storytellers in the business. He is Senior Fellow of Storytelling at Belmont University, and the author of One Small Step, about a young family facing alcoholism and recovery, and Shapes: Rise of the Jaggeds, a comic book series with Cave Pictures Publishing. Current properties in development include The Unvarnished, Broken Spur, and The Jesus Universe.
Awards include two Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards; two Annie Awards for Best Animated Videogame; Toy of the Year; Family Board Game of the Year and Action Figure of the Year. Rick is married, is based in Pasadena, California, and is an avid collector of first-edition books.
