Christians in Nigeria are enduring severe religious persecution, especially in the northern and Middle Belt regions, where extremist attacks on Christian communities have become increasingly common. Villages are raided, churches are burned, and men, women, and children are murdered because of their faith. Since the beginning of 2020, thousands of Christians have been killed, while thousands more have been driven from their homes and lost their farms, businesses, and livelihoods.
Despite these attacks, many believers remain steadfast in their faith and continue to trust in Jesus. Church leaders are teaching children what it means to follow Christ even in the face of persecution. Using David C Cook’s Life on Life discipleship program in English and Hausa, they help children understand biblical responses to persecution, grief, abuse, and fear while encouraging deeper trust in God, who cares for and strengthens the vulnerable and oppressed. Ministry leaders in Nigeria have shared that they are grateful for these resources that “help children to know that God is with them always, no matter what their situation” and “bring encouragement in a time of great need.”
